Bracelet Making Kit FAQ — Your Questions, Answered

We get a lot of the same questions. That's not a complaint — it means people are actually thinking before they buy, which we respect. This page covers everything from bead safety and cord strength to what happens if your order arrives damaged. If you don't find your answer here, email us and a real person will respond.

MATERIALS, SAFETY & QUALITY

Are the beads safe for kids? What certifications do you have?

Yes. All materials in our kits are tested by accredited third-party labs and certified non-toxic. Our products meet ASTM F963 (the US toy safety standard) and EN71 (EU standard), covering chemical safety, heavy metal limits including lead and cadmium, and mechanical hazard testing. Small parts warning applies: not suitable for children under 3 years old. Certification documents are available on request — just email us if you need them for a school or reseller purchase.

What are the beads made of?

Our standard kits use polymer clay (Heishi) beads and acrylic letter beads. Polymer clay beads are the most popular choice right now — lightweight, colorfast, and safe for kids. Acrylic letter beads are used for name and word bracelets. Some kits include glass beads or natural stone beads, which are noted in each product description. All materials are lead-free, cadmium-free, and BPA-free.

Will the elastic cord break easily?

Not if it's ours. We use 0.8mm elastic cord — most kits on the market use 0.5mm, which stretches thin and breaks faster. Our cord is rated for 5,000+ stretch cycles at normal wrist tension. The other factor is the knot: a loose knot will always fail eventually. We include instructions for the double surgeon's knot, which holds through daily wear and hand washing. Every kit also includes a spare length of cord so you can practice tying before committing to a design.

Will the bead colors fade or bleed?

Polymer clay beads are colorfast and don't bleed dye onto skin. Acrylic beads are similarly stable. Glass beads have a natural depth of color that doesn't fade. If your kit includes metal charms or clasps, those may show minor oxidation if frequently exposed to water or sweat over several months — which is normal for metal accessories. To extend life: take off bracelets before showering or swimming.

How many bracelets can I make from one kit?

It depends on bead size and wrist size, but as a general guide: a standard 5,000-piece kit makes approximately 40–60 adult bracelets (17cm wrist, 6mm beads) or 60–80 children's bracelets (14cm wrist). Letter bead name bracelets use roughly 10–15 beads per bracelet. We design our kits so you don't run out halfway through a project — that's a promise, not marketing language.

Do you have enough E's, A's, and I's in the letter bead sets?

Yes — specifically because of this question. Standard kits put equal quantities of every letter, which means you run out of E, A, and I (the most-used letters in common names) before you run out of Q and Z. We calculated letter bead ratios using the 50 most common US first names and adjusted our vowel quantities accordingly. Emma, Ellie, Evelyn, and Ava can all finish their bracelets. That was a deliberate design decision, not an accident.

What's the difference between clay beads, glass beads, and acrylic beads?

Polymer clay (Heishi): lightest weight, widest color range, colorfast, safe for kids, current bestseller — best for everyday casual wear. Glass: heavier with a natural shine and depth, slightly more fragile — best for adult fashion and gift-level designs. Acrylic: very lightweight, affordable, ideal for letter beads and high-volume projects. Our standard kits use clay and acrylic; premium and gift kits may include glass or natural stone, noted in each product listing.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT KIT

I've never made a bracelet before. Which kit should I start with?

Start with one of our Kids Kits (ages 6+) or our Starter Kit — both use 8mm beads which are easier to thread, include a full instruction card with step-by-step illustrations, and come with every tool you need. You don't need prior experience. The instruction card walks you through your first bracelet from start to finish, and we include a QR code for video tutorials if you learn better by watching.

What kit is best for a birthday party activity?

Look for a kit with enough material for all guests, 8mm beads for mixed-age groups, and pre-sorted color sections. Budget roughly $2–4 per child in materials for a 30-minute activity with a take-home keepsake. Our Party Kit includes individual portion bags, per-guest instruction cards, and optional add-on charms. One standard kit works well for up to 10 kids and leaves extra for the birthday child. See our [Party Activity Kit page] for details.

What's the right kit for an 8-year-old as a birthday gift?

Any kit from our Kids Bracelet Making Kit range (ages 6–12) is appropriate. The 8mm bead size is safe and easy to handle for that age group. We'd recommend a kit that includes letter beads so they can spell their name or a friend's — that's consistently the most exciting part for kids in that age range. Gift box packaging is available on select kits if presentation matters.

Can adults use these kits, or are they just for kids?

Adults make up a significant portion of our customers. We have a dedicated Adults Bracelet Making Kit range using 6mm beads, curated color palettes, and designs oriented toward wear-every-day style rather than playful kids' colors. The clay bead kits and natural stone kits are particularly popular with adult crafters. If you're buying for yourself, start there.

How do I make a name bracelet with letter beads?

Lay out your letters first to check spelling and spacing. Add 1–2 small spacer beads between each letter for readability. Fill the remaining bracelet length with accent beads to reach wrist size (typically 17–18cm for adults, 14–15cm for kids). Thread onto elastic cord — 1mm cord works best for name bracelets for extra stability. Tie securely using the double surgeon's knot. Center the name on the bracelet so it sits on top of your wrist when worn. Full illustrated instructions are included in every kit.

I want to use Beadlo kits to sell bracelets on Etsy. Which kit makes the most sense?

Our larger-capacity kits (10,000+ pieces) give you the volume and variety for commercial use. A standard large kit provides enough material to make 80–120 adult bracelets, depending on design. Many of our customers use Beadlo materials for Etsy shops, school fundraisers, and market stalls. For bulk purchasing inquiries, contact us directly.

ORDERING & SHIPPING

How long does shipping take?

We ship within 1–2 business days of your order being placed. Most US orders arrive within 5–7 business days via standard shipping. Expedited options are available at checkout. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order ships.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship within the United States only. International shipping is not available at this time. If you're outside the US and interested in our products, feel free to email us — we'd love to know where demand is coming from.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, you'll receive a confirmation email with a tracking number. You can also track your order at [buybraceletmakingkit.com/track-order/]. If your tracking hasn't updated in more than 3 business days, contact us and we'll look into it.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

A: We process orders quickly — if you need to make a change or cancel, email us at [email protected] within 12 hours of placing your order and we'll do our best. After that window, your order may have already been packed or shipped, and we may not be able to intercept it. If it has shipped, our standard return process applies.

My order arrived and something is missing or wrong. What do I do?

Email us at [email protected] with your order number and a photo of what arrived. We'll sort it out — replacement parts, a full replacement kit, or a refund, depending on what happened and what you'd prefer. We don't make you jump through hoops.

RETURNS & GUARANTEE

What is your return policy?

30-day hassle-free returns. If your kit arrived damaged, has missing pieces, or you simply changed your mind, contact us within 30 days of delivery. No restocking fees, no lengthy forms. Items for change-of-mind returns should be unused and in original packaging. For manufacturing defects or shipping damage, we cover return shipping costs.

What if my elastic cord breaks?

If your cord breaks within 30 days of delivery under normal use, we'll replace it — no questions asked. Cord breakage under normal tension isn't something that should happen with our 0.8mm cord. If it does, that's our problem to fix, not yours.

My package arrived damaged. What should I do?

Take a photo of the packaging and the contents as they arrived, then email us at [email protected] with your order number and the photo. We'll process a replacement or refund within 2 business days of receiving your message. You don't need to ship anything back if the item is damaged on arrival.

Can I exchange for a different kit?

Yes. Contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange an exchange, provided the original item is unused and in its original packaging. Return shipping for exchanges is the customer's responsibility; we cover shipping on the replacement sent to you.

USING & CARING FOR YOUR BRACELETS

How do I tie a knot that won't come undone?

The double surgeon's knot is the most reliable method for elastic cord. After threading your last bead: (1) cross the two cord ends, (2) loop one end around twice, (3) pull both ends tight while holding the bracelet taut, (4) repeat the loop once more, (5) tuck the tail end inside a nearby bead to hide it. A tiny drop of clear nail polish on the knot adds extra security. This holds through daily wear and hand washing. Full illustrated instructions are included in every kit.

How do I store beads so they don't get mixed up?

Our kits include a compartment sorting box — one color per section, lid closes securely. Keep the lid closed when not in use. If you expand your collection beyond what the included box holds, small organizer containers from any craft store work well. The rule: one color per compartment, and keep a spare bead visible on top so you can see the color at a glance without opening.

How long will a finished bracelet last?

With 0.8mm elastic cord tied correctly, a bracelet made from a Beadlo kit holds up to 6–12 months of regular daily wear. The beads themselves don't degrade. The cord is the wear component — it will eventually stretch slightly over time with constant use. If a bracelet starts to feel loose, re-tie or replace the cord. Remove bracelets before swimming, showering, or heavy exercise to extend lifespan.

Can kids wash their hands while wearing a Beadlo bracelet?

Brief water exposure (hand washing) is fine. The beads won't absorb water or bleed color. For extended water exposure — swimming, bathing — we recommend removing the bracelet. Repeated soaking doesn't damage the beads but can gradually soften the elastic knot over time.

How do I clean a bracelet?

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. Avoid submerging in water or using soap directly on the knot. For bracelets with metal charms, dry thoroughly after any water contact to prevent oxidation.
